MANE Compendium – help section

This page will help MANE compendium users to add content elements to the site.

Narrative Environments, Practices and Terms

On the right hand-side of the back-end pages (i.e. after login) you should see three pins under the Dashboard and page buttons:

  • Terms
  • Practices
  • Narrative Environment

When adding a new element, it is strongly recommended to add a general definition for that element. This can be revisited at a later date. When the content added comes from external sources, make sure to add a direct link to the source, including a mention of when it was accessed last.

Please note that when a student user creates new content, this content will be ‘pending’ approval from the tutor or administrator. If needed, the student user would need to inform the person of the new entry for approval.

Terms

Clicking or hovering on ‘Terms’ will give you two options: see ‘All Terms’ of ‘Add New’

All Terms

This page will display the list of all the terms in alphabetical order. You will notice some repetition and indentation for the terms, as they get associated with various practices.
The first term is the ‘general term’, and the children terms are the ‘context terms’, being associated with a practice.
Not all terms are being displayed on the page, only 30 at one time. You can see other by using the navigation arrows on the top right or bottom right of the list.
You can also search for a specific term using the search option on the top right of the page.

Add New (term)

To add a new term, it is important to understand the idiosyncrasies of the system.

  1. A context term (i.e. term associated to the practice) cannot exist if no general term counterpart already exists. e.g. Agency in Interaction Design cannot exist without Agency
  2. Rule of thumb is to create the general term first:
    a- click Add New
b- enter the name of the new term in the texfield under ‘Add New Term’ at the top of the page
    c- select ‘General Term’
d- enter a general definition, broader and narrower terms, images and videos
e- click Publish or Submit blue button on the top right of the page
  3. Now to create a context term:
    a- IMPORTANT: click Add New
b- skip the name of the term, select ‘Context Term’
c- from the new elements shown on the page, select the General Term from the drop down list (you can also type the first few letter to get a selection from the list)
d- select the practice from the drop down list (you can also type the first few letter to get a selection from the list)
e- add a definition of the context term, images and/or videos
f- click Publish or Submit blue button on the top right of the page
